THE EDUCATION STANDARD IN RURAL NEPAL

Nepal is a beautiful country located in South Asia. It is the country of Everest, home of the brave Gurkhas and birthplace of Buddha. Beautiful but poor! Education is considered luxury. So, it is extremely difficult for the families in rural Nepal to invest on their children’s education. So, many children support their parents on house chores instead of going to school.

OUR HELPING HANDS

A Ray of Hope is not a charity and we try as far as possible never to assist in currency form, but rather prefer to investigate what people, especially children, need throughout the world.

The Society Touch was registered back in 8th March 1998 with the mission of overall development of the local community on the basis of inclusion. Since then, this organisation is working with local community in the area.

Thomas Tallis School (UK) A very large 11-18 comprehensive school (founded 1971) which now has about 1900 students. Young people from a wide range of backgrounds (46% FSM)and ethnicities (64 languages)

SCHOOL PROJECTS

LIBRARY

Not many children have access to books and public lending libraries are scarce and do not have enough books to meet the high demand. Save the School has donated hundreds of curriculum textbooks to a library in a school located at the center of Chainpur, so students from all over the village can have access. Besides, the foundation has also been providing stationery items to more than 500 students in the village for the last 7 years. SavetheSchool has also provided 3 computers for a school in Chainpur.

PROJECTORS

We realised that teachers aren’t able to share their ideas with each other effectively without a good presentation tool. So, Save the School provided a projector to a teaching resource center of 24 schools, so that they can present, collaborate and raise the quality of teaching materials. Having a projector is almost unheard of in rural Nepal.

WHITEBOARDS

Almost every school in the UK use interactive white boards. The story is different in rural Nepal. Many schools do not have the funding to even afford white board, let alone interactive ones. They still use the “chalk and talk” method. Teachers write on a old worn-out dirty blackboard with chalk. Writings aren’t clear and chalk dust isn’t safe for children. Save the School has replaced 600 old blackboards with white boards in 60 schools in Sankhusabha district of Nepal. Chainpur Municipality has been declared as "blackboard free municipality".

WORKING WITH SCHOOLS IN THE UK

THOMAS TALLIS SCHOOL (UK)

Save the School Foundation has been working closely with Thomas Tallis School in the UK to help raise awareness about the status of education in rural Nepalese villages among its teachers and students. The school regularly organizes fundraising activities to support the foundation on its effort. The school recently organized a "non-uniform day" where kids donated their lunch money to swap their school uniform with casual wear. The donation from the event was used to replace 80 worn out blackboards with new whiteboards. Save the School Foundation has recently been nominated as one of the partner charities of Community Day final event at the school. Thank you, Thomas Tallis School!
